Tours, Concerts

Golden Bough News - 2001
The past few months have been filled with exciting new places and wonderful concert sites!
In June we spent nearly two weeks in the
Northwest of Spain,
researching the Celtic music there.
We
discovered the
unmatched beauty in the coastline there and made friends
with some of the local musicians. We learned more about the
Celtic
music and culture, not only of Galicia, but also the
provinces of
Asturias and Cantabria. However, we fell like
we barely scratched
the surface!
One of the interesting places we went to was a bagpipe college in Ourense in Galicia. We learned more about the gaita, the Galician pipes and even went to a shop to see how they are made first-hand. Of course we had to try our hand at playing them. You can only imagine the sounds we produced! |
Some of the other highlights included The Celtic Roundhouses at Monte de Santa Tecla, near Pontevedre. This site overlooks Rio Miño, which runs between Spain and Portugal - breathtaking! We also had fun jamming with musicians in Cantabria and taking walks and photos along the gorgeous Spanish coastline. One of the most unique experiences was an impromptu concert for cloistered nuns in Medinaceli (along with our host and Scottish fiddle player Maury Richmond). Photos of Spain
