- intro -
Long have we known the question
 and longer told the tale,
Creating rhyme in mystic time,
these answers to unveil.

And Bacchus bound by legend,
to bring his magic hence,
And neither sigh nor tearful eye
will change the scene commenced ...

- 1 -
Under the light of the forest moon,
under the redwood trees,
Under the spell of the evening gloom,
adrift on the evening breeze.

- chorus -
I will play a lover's melody upon the flute,
I will sing a lover's song to you.

- 2 -
Near to the sound of the water flow,
Near to the ocean swell.
Near to the light of your own heart glow,
Near to the fairy dell.

- chorus -
I will play a lover's melody upon the flute,
I will sing a lover's song to you.

- bridge -
He came from deep within the wood where cold hearts seldom roam,
And like a god before us stood calling us to his home,
With notes of golden harmony on his wooden pipe he played,
In answer to his melody she followed unafraid,
Deep into the darkness of the wood.

- 3 -
Upon the meadow, dreamily,
Lay your head and lose your woe.
Upon this drifting, midnight sea,
Leave your cares and with me go.

- chorus -
I will play a lover's melody upon the flute,
I will sing a lover's song to you.
