My father was a sea captain
And sailed from the isle of green,
My desire was to be a brave captain such as he,
That was the birth of the pirate queen.
Men did laugh at my eagerness
And shake their heads that such a thing could be,
I proved to be a worthy mariner at sea.
Now none dare laugh at the pirate queen.
Chorus:
Sea Queen of Connemara, you leave
a bold legacy
Sea Queen of
Connemara, time honors your memory.
I learned the ways of the sailing men,
I was taught by my father’s hand,
A fleet of ships to guide, I commanded them with pride,
Captained by the pirate queen
I pirated the Turk and Spaniard
And fought the bloody British on the tide,
In fear many fled others brawled and others bled,
Regretting that they fought with the pirate queen.
Chorus:
Sea Queen of Connemara, you leave
a bold legacy
Sea Queen of
Connemara, time honors your memory.
I battled with a sailing ship from Spain,
Don Pedro de Mendoza was her name,
Her men were sharp and keen, that was how it seemed,
But in the end they lost to the pirate queen.
I met the English queen to make my
demand,
A plea for justice in Ireland,
I stood an equal there, an act that none would dare,
I gained her respect as the pirate queen.
Chorus:
Sea Queen of Connemara, you leave
a bold legacy
Sea Queen of
Connemara, time honors your memory.
40 years I plundered without fear,
My story has been told both far and near,
Saint or charlatan take me as I am,
None will e’er forget the pirate queen.
Chorus:
Sea Queen of Connemara, you leave
a bold legacy
Sea Queen of
Connemara, time honors your memory.
